Cleaning and regular maintenance

Learn how to keep your windows in top condition with just a few simple steps.

What does routine maintenance of All Wood windows involve?

Routine maintenance for wooden windows includes regular cleaning with a soft cloth and mild detergents, periodic application (at least twice a year) of a wood reviver to maintain the elasticity of the varnish, and checking the seals and hardware to ensure they are in good condition.

Specifically, every six months, it is recommended to use a water-based cleaner and reviver. First, spray the cleaner onto the glass and wood, wipe with a clean cloth to remove dirt; then, spray the wood reviver onto the surfaces, use a microfiber cloth to distribute the product evenly, and finish by drying with a microfiber cloth. Check corners and crevices to remove any dust or smog buildup. Always clean the drainage channels in the external fittings to ensure unobstructed water flow (removing leaves and debris).

A six-month maintenance schedule is recommended. However, in particularly aggressive environments (such as areas with heavy smog or saline mist), PBFinestre advises performing routine cleaning and maintenance four times a year.

What does routine maintenance of Wood-Aluminum Clad windows involve?

Routine maintenance for wood-aluminum windows includes cleaning the interior wood surfaces with specific wood products and the exterior aluminum surfaces with gentle detergents. It is essential to check and lubricate the hardware and inspect the seals to ensure optimal performance.

For wood: every six months, use a water-based cleaner and wood reviver. Spray the cleaner onto the glass and wood, wipe with a clean cloth to remove dirt; then, spray the reviver onto the surfaces, use a microfiber cloth to distribute it evenly, and dry with a microfiber cloth. Check corners and crevices for dust or smog deposits.

For aluminum: PBFinestre's wood-aluminum products are made with powder-coated aluminum profiles, ensuring long-lasting beauty and color. It is recommended to clean them periodically (twice a year) using a soft sponge (similar to a car-washing sponge) and neutral detergent. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.

What does routine maintenance of pvc windows involve?

PVC windows require minimal maintenance: periodic cleaning with water and neutral soap, checking and lubricating the hardware, and inspecting seals for wear or damage.

Dirt and rain marks can be removed with a damp cloth and a standard household cleaner. Note that PVC may stain or discolor in harsh environments (e.g., coastal areas) or industrial pollution. To prevent discoloration, clean regularly using a mild, solvent-free cleaner and a soft cloth for both the frame and glass.

How can I remove label residue from the insulated glass unit?

To remove label residue from insulated glass, use a soft cloth and a gentle glass cleaner. If the adhesive persists, use a mild solvent, taking care not to scratch the glass. A specific adhesive residue remover can also help. Avoid abrasive materials that might scratch the surface.

How should I clean the glass?

Glass should be cleaned with water and a neutral, solvent-free detergent, using a soft cloth to avoid scratches. Specific glass-cleaning products can be used if they are non-aggressive and the instructions are followed carefully.

How do I clean mosquito nets?

Mosquito nets should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush. Follow two steps: first, use a vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle to remove debris. Then, wipe with a damp cloth and a mild detergent across the entire surface. Ensure no product residues remain and that the screen is completely dry before rolling it back up

How often should I clean my windows?

Windows should be cleaned at least twice a year. However, more frequent cleaning is recommended in areas with high pollution or near the sea.

If the product is installed in coastal areas, it is crucial to prevent salt or other corrosive materials from accumulating on the exterior surfaces. Clean the exterior with a specialized detergent or revitalizing spray every three months (or more frequently if needed). Any scratches, abrasions, or dents on the exterior surface should be repaired immediately to maintain the product's performance.

How should I clean the handles?

Handles can be cleaned with a soft cloth and a neutral detergent. Avoid using abrasive products or sponges that could permanently damage the finish.

What does routine maintenance of hardware involve?

Routine maintenance of hardware includes periodic lubrication of moving parts with a dedicated lubricant and inspecting for signs of wear or damage.

Specifically: check and tighten all screws, grease mechanical parts (hinges and locks), and inspect the integrity and elasticity of the seals, as they are critical to air tightness. Replace any damaged parts immediately to maintain the window's performance.

How can I keep the seals elastic over time?

Seals can retain their elasticity through regular maintenance: lubricating all mechanical parts with silicone spray or other specific products, checking and adjusting their condition, and cleaning them with non-aggressive detergents and lubricants. This prevents drying and deterioration, keeping the seals soft and functional.

What products can I use to clean my windows?

Neutral, non-aggressive cleaners are recommended, such as those specifically for glass or delicate surfaces, e.g., wood revitalizers. Avoid any ammonia-based or harsh products that could damage the material, glass, frames, or seals.

Condensation forms on the glass: how can I prevent it?

Condensation is a natural phenomenon, such as when taking hot showers during colder seasons. In these cases, it may appear on the interior glass surface. To eliminate or better prevent condensation, it is important to improve room ventilation through micro-ventilation, tilt opening, regular window opening, and/or the use of dehumidifiers. Additionally, maintaining a consistent indoor temperature is key.

I replaced my windows and now have mold issues: how do I resolve them?

If mold appears after replacing windows, it is likely due to improved thermal insulation. While beneficial for energy efficiency, this may reduce natural air exchange, increasing indoor humidity.

To address this:

  • Improve ventilation by airing rooms regularly. Open windows twice daily for 5-10 minutes.
  • If humidity remains high, use a dehumidifier or consider installing a mechanical ventilation system (VMC) for constant air circulation.
  • Control household humidity by minimizing vapor sources, such as cooking without an extractor hood or drying clothes indoors, and check for wall leaks or infiltration worsening the situation.

How does window installation work?

PBFinestre subjects its products to rigorous tests to achieve and exceed thermal, acoustic, and sealing performance as per European standards. Proper installation is critical for maintaining the window's quality and performance over time.

During installation, two structures—the frame and the wall—are joined. For a perfect match, installation must use appropriate tools and procedures. For this reason, PB Finestre recommends using in-house installation teams trained and experienced to ensure proper handling and installation.

I scratched the glass; are there products to remove the scratches?

First, closely examine the scratch. If it's superficial, you can attempt to treat it. For deeper scratches, professional intervention is necessary. There are products and techniques that can help, such as repair kits available at hardware stores or online for minor scratches.

At PBFinestre, we recommend extreme caution: if the scratch is deep, covers a large area, or if the repair attempt fails, there is a risk of further damaging the glass. We suggest contacting the company to understand how to proceed. Additionally, to avoid future scratches, ensure you clean the glass with non-abrasive products and use soft cloths, avoiding rough sponges or harsh cleaners.

Cromatic differences in wooden windows: why?

Wooden windows, being made from a natural material, may display color variations from one product to another. These color changes are due to the grain and structure of the wood itself, making each piece unique. The wood may also react differently to painting depending on the type of wood chosen. These differences should be considered an added value, highlighting the authenticity and natural beauty of the material.

Color variations over time: what causes them?

Over time, the color of wooden windows may change due to several factors, such as exposure to sunlight, humidity, and atmospheric agents. Using protective paints, such as the water-based finishes we use, helps protect the product from these potential undesirable effects. For this reason, PBFinestre offers its customers a 10-year warranty on the paint film for wooden and wood-aluminum products.

What are the differences between wood and PVC?

Wooden and PVC windows differ in several characteristics related to aesthetics, performance, and maintenance.

  • Aesthetics: Wood offers a natural elegance and unique beauty thanks to its texture and grain. With modern technologies, its style ranges from classic to ultra-modern. PVC, on the other hand, has a more minimalist and uniform appearance, available in various colors and finishes, but cannot replicate the visual warmth of wood.

  • Thermal and acoustic insulation: Both materials provide excellent insulating performance, but wood has natural thermal properties that make it highly efficient. PVC, thanks to its multi-chamber structure, also offers good insulation levels.

  • Durability and maintenance: PVC requires less maintenance than wood, being resistant to weather, humidity, and corrosion. Wood, while very durable, needs periodic treatments to maintain its aesthetic and protective properties over time (see dedicated FAQ).

In summary, the choice between wood and PVC depends on many factors, including aesthetic preferences, insulation needs, and maintenance requirements.

What is the average lifespan of a wooden frame?

Not all frames are the same. PBFinestre guarantees a long-lasting and high-performance product. In fact, a quality wooden frame, well-maintained and cleaned periodically, can last up to 50 years. Its longevity depends not only on the quality of the wood, workmanship, and more or less stressful climatic conditions but also on maintenance, especially regular maintenance.

What is microventilation?

Microventilation is an advanced feature of windows that ensures optimal air exchange inside rooms without fully opening the windows. This feature is particularly useful for maintaining good indoor air quality and preventing moisture and mold issues, while still providing a high level of security.

Microventilation is activated through a specific position of the window handle. When the window is in microventilation mode, it remains slightly open, allowing a small gap between the frame and the sash. This gap is sufficient to allow air to pass through, improving air quality and preventing moisture, but too small to compromise security or allow water to enter during rain.

How safe can a PBFinestre window be?

Why should I sign the account statement if I've already signed other documents?

Signing the account statement, even after having signed other documents, is important as it represents an official and detailed summary of the amounts to be invoiced, including payment deadlines.

This document serves to:

  • Confirm the accuracy of the amounts: It allows you to verify that all reported data is correct and consistent.
  • Define deadlines: It clearly highlights when and how payments should be made.
  • Transparency: It ensures a common reference point between the parties, simplifying administrative and fiscal management.

Signing the account statement is a crucial step to complete the formalization process and ensure that all information has been clearly shared and accepted.

Why do I have to pay before seeing the windows?

Paying before the delivery of the windows is a common practice and is based on pre-established agreements, similar to many other types of significant purchases, such as buying a car or custom furniture. This method ensures both the customer and the supplier and is based on several key principles:

  • Product already reviewed: Before the purchase, you surely had the chance to see the product in the showroom, assessing its quality, materials, and features, guided by the expert team of technical sales consultants.
  • Customization and production: The windows are made to measure based on your requests and specifications. This makes advance payment a crucial element to start production.
  • Standard commercial practice: As with other made-to-order products, pre-delivery payment is an established practice that protects the supplier and ensures the regularity of operations.

Finally, consider that the contract and agreed payment terms represent a transparent agreement for both parties. For any questions, our team is always available to offer support.

Why was less advance payment deducted?

The reason less advance payment was deducted compared to what was initially paid lies in delivery management. If supplies are split, a part of the advance is retained to cover the remainder of the goods yet to be delivered. This ensures precise payment management in relation to the goods already provided and those still in the delivery phase.

If the delivery is single and complete, however, the entire advance payment amount is deducted at once. This system is designed to align payments with the state of supplies, ensuring maximum transparency and fairness for both parties.
